Bryan Cranston had to drop out of the upcoming police saga, Gangster Squad due to a scheduling conflict and Variety is now reporting that Robert Patrick will be taking his place.
The film will chronicle LAPD’s fight against increasing crime as well as corruption within the department during the 1940’s. A special unit called the “Gangster Squad” is created to help keep east coast mafia type criminals out of Los Angeles.
The film is written by Will Beall, a former LAPD cop turned writer and Reuben Fleischer (Zombieland, this month’s 30 Minutes or Less) will be directing the film.
Gangster Squad has quite the ensemble cast, including: Ryan Gosling (Drive, Crazy Stupid Love), Sean Penn (The Tree of Life, Fair Game), Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, Half Nelson) , Michael Pena (30 Minutes or Less, The Lincoln Lawyer), Givanni Ribisi (Lost In Translation, Avatar) and Holt McCallany (The Losers, Lights Out).
Patrick recently finished shooting Safe House and is currently working on Jayne’s Mansfield’s Car which is being directed by Billy Bob Thorton.
