Deadline reports A Walk Among the Tombstones, a film adaptation of Lawrence Block’s novel has been brought back from the dead.
Tombstone was set up more than a decade ago at Universal and at one point Harrison Ford was interested in playing the lead character Matthew Scudder, a alcoholic ex-cop who does “favors” for friends in his retirement days. Said favors usually lead him to dealings with the seedier side of New York City.
DJ Caruso (The Salton Sea, Eagle Eye) is in talks to direct from a Scott Frank (Out of Sight, Minority Report, The Lookout) penned script.
A Walk Among the Tombstones follows a pair of men who kidnap the wives/girlfriends of drug dealers and demand huge ransoms. Scudder takes on a job from a drug dealer to find out who murdered his wife and he slowly starts to see a pattern to the kidnappings and killings.
DJ Caruso is also attached to direct Preacher, the John August (Titan A.E., Big Fish)scripted film adaptation of the popular comic book series.
