Variety is reporting that one Matthew McConaughey (The Lincoln Lawyer, Frailty) has been cast alongside Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe, Fighting) in Steven Soderbergh’s (Traffic, Che, The Limey) Magic Mike.
Magic Mike follows the story of Mike (Tatum), a stripper and dancer who takes Alex Pettyfer’s character under his wing and shows him how to hustle both on and off the stage.
McConaughey will play Dallas, a former stripper and now owner of Exquisite, the club where Magic Mike dances.
The film supposedly draws from some of Tatum’s own experiences working as a teen stripper in Tampa, FL.
McConaughey has a number of indie films coming out since last being seen in The Lincoln Lawyer. He’s currently on set for Lee Daniels’ (Precious) thriller The Paperboy and he’s now attached to play the lead in Jeff Nichols’ (Take Shelter, Shotgun Stories) Mud.
McConaughey will next be seen in Richard Linklater’s (Dazed and Confused, A Scanner Darkly) Bernie and William Friedkin’s (The Exorcist, To Live and Die in LA) Killer Joe.
Soderbergh has Contagion coming out on September 9th and Haywire on January 25, 2012.
Magic Mike is set to be released sometime in 2012.
