I remember the first time I saw a guy on a Honda Scooter I thought “What the hell is wrong with that motorcycle”? However, when I saw a chick on a Honda Scooter, I thought “Boy, that chick is cute and carefree, I wish I had one of those motorized lawn chairs”.
Let’s face it, scooters are very gender specific (we’re talking ovary-centric here people) and I think that Honda knew that judging by how they tried to butch them up by using such luminaries as Miles Davis, Lou Reed and Devo (?) to turn them from chick-mobiles to dude-cycles.
But, as time did tell, guys did not want to be seen zooming around town on an over-sized Lark so this particular ad campaign was a total wash.
But at least we still have the commercials to show us what the world would be like if guys preferred the soft hum of a scooter between their thighs.
Commercials after the break.
