Hi, what are you looking for?

The first full length trailer for The Hunger Games premiered this morning on Good Morning America and I’m happy to report it’s pretty solid. It’s definitely a world building piece and it sets up all the major players and plot well. It is lacking any action and I applaud Lionsgate for keeping the “good stuff” under wraps and not giving everything away as so many other trailers do nowadays.

The Hunger Games is based on the best selling young adult novel of the same name by Susanne Collins. Gary Ross (Pleasantville, Seabiscuit) both wrote and directed the film adaptation.

The story is set in a post-apocalyptic future in what is left of North America, now broken down into 12 districts where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from each district to fight to the death on live television in The Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen’s little sister is chosen in the lottery to participate in the games and Katniss ends up volunteering to take her sister’s place.

The film’s cast includes Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutchinson as Peeta Mellark, Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch Abernathy, Elisabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, Lenny Kravitz as Cinna, Stanly Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, Donald Sutherland as President Snow, Toby Jones as Claudius Templesmith, Wes Bentley as Seneca Crane, Alexander Ludwig as Cato, and Amanda Stenberg as Rue.

The Hunger Games will open in theaters on March 23, 2012.
