SMURFS Writer Now Working on POPEYE

Sony has brought its writers from The Smurfs to work on their next big animated project Popeye.

Deadline
has reported that writers Jay Scherick and David Ronn are now attached to the Popeye project. The project will be produced by by Sony Pictures Animation and Avi Arad. The film is already set to be a stereoscopic 3D movie.

Bob Osher, president of Sony Pictures Digital Productions has said ”Scherick & Ronn have a remarkable talent in re-energizing beloved characters.”

Osher also stated that the writers “embrace the iconic characteristic of these timeless characters and craft a story that really engages moviegoers today.

The two writers are already working on a sequel to the Smurfs and they are also known for writing the original script for Baywatch.
