While it was long reported that the remake of The Crow was a dead project. It’s been revived and now has a director signed on.
Deadline reports that now that the lawsuits between Relativity Media and The Weinstein Company have been dropped, Relativity is moving forward with the project and has F. Javier Gutierrez set to direct. He is previously credited with directing Before The Fall. Jesse Wigutow is currently in negotiations to write the script.
In 1994, the original was distributed by the Weinsteins and Miramax and grossed over $50 million. The suit that was recently dropped claimed that The Weinstein Co had “exclusive worldwide distribution rights on The Crow reboot and not Relativity.” The lawsuit was settled out of court just yesterday.
Scribe Wigutow recently scripted a biopic of Steve McQueen based on the book Steve McQueen: Portrait Of An American Rebel. He also is working on Irreparable Harm for HBO films and did a rewrite of Robert Ludlum’s The Osterman Weekend.
