A sequel to Midnight Run looks to be in the works and it might even have Brett Ratner directing the project.
Deadline reports that Universal has started negotiations to get Brett Ratner to direct with a script from David Elliot and Paul Lovett. Robert De Niro would be reprising his role from the first film as Jack Walsh a bounty hunger.
The original which starred De Niro and Charles Grodin was scripted by George Gallo and had Martin Brest direct the project in 1988. Described as a mismatched buddies, the new story will continue with the story that last saw the lead character Walsh release The Duke at LAX.
The writing duo Elliot & Lovett, who were writers on GI Joe, and are working on the sequel to Four Brothers (which they also scripted). While Grodin has spoken in the past about getting away from acting, he did say recently that he was interested in the project and would consider it after seeing a script.
