Although he is only producing the horror remake, Sam Raimi will be working on Poltergeist.
MGM CEO Robert Birnbaum talked at the University of Denver and said that Raimi would have some part in the remake. THR later confirmed that he will produce the film, but not direct like it was first reported in a Reddit chat.
Raimi will also help find a director to take on the script from David Lindsay-Abaire. Although it looked like he might direct, he’ll be too busy with Oz: The Great and Powerful, to be helming the project.
According to the commenter on Reddit, Birnbaum also talked a little about the remake of Carrie. The new update on the Stephen King horror has Chloe Moretz set to play the lead role. While the CEO said it would have “found footage,” though The Film Stage believes that it would translate more into interviews, court documents, and video from the original event.
