The Mistress of All Evil will be getting some opposition now that a few new actors have joined the Angelina Jolie starring project Maleficent.
Trackingboard reports that Imelda Staunton and Miranda Richardson will be joining the cast, but wait there’s more. THR says Kenneth Cranham (Made in Dagenham), Sam Riley (Brighton Rock) and Lesley Manville (Another Year) will also be in the cast. And finally, according to Variety, India Eisley will be playing a younger version of Jolie’s evil witch character.
In the story told from the point of the evil witch, the story follows Jolie as her character continues to search for more power by eliminating her only real challenge, the king’s daughter. Elle Fanning is confirmed to be playing the role of Aurora. India Eisley will be playing a younger version of Maleficent, probably around the point where she decides just how evil she wants to be, just a guess though.
In the live-action version of the classic Sleeping Beauty story, Staunton and Manville will play two of the three pixies who protect Aurora from any danger, including Maleficent. Richardson will play Maleficent’s fairy aunt Queen Ulla. She’s not to happy with what her niece has done. Riley will play Diaval, the shape shifting right hand to Maleficent. He has the ability to change between a raven and human.
Cranham will play the king of the human world who seeks to take over the fairy kingdom. Sharlto Copley is attached to play his half-human, half-fairy bastard son Stefan.
The project is the directorial debut for Robert Stromberg, who is normally attached to projects as a production designer. He’ll be working with a script from Linda Woolverton who also penned Alice in Wonderland. Production will start in June and Disney has set a release date for March 14, 2014.
