CBGB Starts Casting The Music Icons

CBGB, the upcoming film by Randall Miller and Jody Savin about the legendary New York rock has club, announced some new cast members to join Alan Rickman (CBGB founder Hilly Kristal) and Rupert Grint (Cheetah Chrome, the guitarist for The Dead Boys).

Malin Akerman has signed on to play Debbie Harry of Blondie.

Castle’s Stana Katic will portray Genya Ravan,” a producer who was the lead singer of pioneering 1960s rock band Goldie & the Gingerbreads, which many say was the first all-female band to have a recording contract.”

Joel David Moore (Avatar) and Julian Acosta (Thin Red Line) will portray Johnny and Joey Ramone, respectively, of The Ramones.

Other announced cast members include Richard De Klerk as CBGB soundman Taxi; Josh Zuckerman as Punk magazine creator John Holmstrom; Ryan Hurst as Mad Mountain; and Estelle Harris as Hilly’s mother, Bertha Kristal.

No word yet on who might play other CBGB regulars such as Patti Smith, Mink DeVille, Talking Heads, The Shirts, The Heartbreakers, The Fleshtones .
