Universal Pictures has found a new project for director Gareth Evans and it’s called Breaking The Bank.
Deadline reports that the acquisition by Universal will have Evans taking on the story of former UFC fighter “Lightning” Lee Murray. The true-story is based on the book Heist: The True Story of the World’s Biggest Cash Robbery by Howard Sounes and L. Jon Wetheim’s article Breaking The Bank fom Sports Illustrated. We talked with Evans back when his big action project The Raid: Redemption first came out.
The project has been in development since 2008 when the deal was first made for the film rights. The story revolves around Lee Murray, “a mixed martial arts street brawler who masterminded the largest cash heist in history in England in 2006.” Darren Aronofsky originally was attached to develop, but he is working on Noah instead. Kerry Williamson is the latest writer to pen a draft of the screenplay.
