The Yakuza might be a touchy subject for those that value their lives, or maybe I’ve just heard the bad stories. Anyways, Gavin O’Connor is going to be directing a new movie about the most famous gang of Japan.
According to Deadline, Universal has hired the director to work on the contemporary thriller set in Japan. Brian Grazer will be producing the project for Universal Pictures with Imagine Entertainment. The story is based around an American intelligence expert who find himself deep in the violent crime underworld that still exists in a post-tsunami Japan.
Aaron and Matthew Benay wrote the first draft of the script with Chap Taylor. O’Connor will be rewriting the script along with Josh Fagin. Kim Roth will executive produce for Imagine with Sarah Bowen. O’Connor’s last project was Warrior, next he’ll be working on Neverland, the Peter Pan revisionist story. He is also attached to direct The Samurai and turn The Hustler into a Stage Play.
