Most movies that receive an NC-17 rating from the MPAA do something to get that changed to an R. But Killer Joe is sticking with it and here’s the first trailer.
Although it doesn’t really show why the film is getting such a harsh rating, the trailer gives us a first look at Matthew McConaughey in the lead role and also tell us the plot of the very dark comedy/thriller. William Friedkin directed the hitman film which is said to have a climatic scene that may warrant a caution to those under 17.
With McConaughey in a very atypical role he plays a cop/hitman who is hired by Emile Hirsch character to kill his mother for a $50k life insurance policy. Things start out fine when he uses his sister, played by Juno Temple as a retainer. It doesn’t stay fine though and the plan starts to fall apart quickly.
