Three Big Names Join SAVING MR. BANKS
Disney’s making-of Mary Poppins biopic, Saving Mr. Banks is adding to it’s cast with Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman and Ruth Wilson all being announced as joining the ensemble. John Lee Hancock is directing the story about author P.L. James and her relationship with Walt Disney and his 14-year struggle to get the rights to the character from the Australian author. Tom Hanks will be playing Disney in the film with Emma Thompson portraying Travers. David Tomlinson has the role of Mr. Banks. Wilson will play the wife of Colin Farrell‘s character, and Travers’ mother. Giamatti plays Travers’ chauffer and Schwartzman has the role of Richard Morton Sherman, the songwriter who wrote most of the music for the film and many other Disney projects.
DOUG LIMAN Will Start Work On TIME AND AGAIN Adaptation
Doug Liman will be working to bring Jack Finney‘s novel Time and Again to the big screen with Lionsgate, who just acquired the film rights. Liman will direct and produce the romantic time-travel story from 1970 which follows a character named Simon Morley who is an illustrator that joins a secret government experiment and is transported back to 1882 New York. After falling in love he finds himself torn about when he should live. Robert Redford was looking at developing the film in the mid 1990s after Paul Newman showed him the book.
ALEX PETTYFER In Talks To Star In CALI
After making a scene with Magic Mike, Alex Pettyfer is in the final negotiations to star in Cali as the love interest of Kristen Stewart. The gritty action film follows a San Fernando couple who sell a fake snuff film and make a bunch of money. Stewart’s character has to “return from the dead” to save the younger sister that she left behind. Production is slated to start later this summer.
DEAN NORRIS Will Join RIDLEY SCOTT’S THE COUNSELOR
Dean Norris, best known for his part on Breaking Bad will join Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, and Penelope Cruz in The Counselor. The new film from author of The Road, Cormac McCarthy follows a lawyer who tries to get into the drug business only to be swallowed up with no way to escape.
QUINCY JONES Will Score LEE DANIELS’ THE BUTLER
Based on the life of White House servant Eugene Allen, The Butler is Lee Daniels next big film and has names like Forrest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey attached. Now Quincy Jones has been attached to score the project. Jones has been nominated for six Oscars including best song three times and best score three times as well.
VINCE VAUGHN Picks Up Rights To THE RISK AGENT
Vince Vaughn is using his Wild West Picture Show Productions to bring Ridley Pearson‘s novel The Risk Agent to the big screen as a potential starring vehicle for himself. Michael Lerner is writing the script for the thriller set in China. The story follows a Chinese man working for an American construction company who is literally Shanghai’d along with his security. The call then goes out to a risk firm that specializes in hostage extraction. Two experts are hired to use their skills to get the hostages back before it’s too late.
ADAM SANDLER Adapting BAD TOYS II With Happy Madison
Adam Sandler is working with his production shingle Happy Madison and Columbia pictures to bring Bad Toys II to the big screen. The original is a hybrid animated-live-action short from Daniel Brunet and Nicolas Douste, who will be executive producers on the project. The story is an animated car chase scene that takes place on a living room floor with editing that Michael Bay would be fond of. The film will see a grown man trying to get back in touch with his youth by using his son’s toys to make an homage of sorts to big-budget action films.
TORY KITTLES Joins The Cast Of OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN
Olympus Has Fallen has added Tory Kittles to the cast of the action thriller that stars Gerard Butler as a Secret Service agent trying to stop Korean terrorists who have kidnapped the President and taken over the White House. Aaron Eckhart is set to play the president with a cast that includes Angela Bassett, Cole Hauser, Ashley Judd, Radha Mitchell, Robert Forster, Melissa Leo and Rick Yune. Kittles will be a part of the President’s security detail.
MICHAEL ROSS Will Adapt BZRK For Sony
BZRK started as a novel by Micahel Grant and Shadow Gang, and now Michael Ross is turning it into a movie for Sony Pictures. Sam Raimi is producing the project which was acquired last year and is the first in a three book series by the author who co-creator the Animorphs. the story follows a team of gifted teens who use nanobots as warriors as they battle another group who are trying to brainwash the world leaders and take over the planet.
ERIC ANDRE Joins VINCE VAUGHN, OWEN WILSON, THE INTERNSHIP
Eric Andre a comedian and actor most recently seen in Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23 is now joining Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson for the comedy The Internship. In the movie he will play an engineer who oversees Wilson and Vaugh, unemployed guys trying to reboot their lives by heading to Silicon Valley although they know nothing about technology. Shawn Levy is directing the project which started shooting earlier this month.
New Photos From THE WACHOWSKI’S CLOUD ATLAS
We showed you the trailer earlier today, but now we have some high quality stills from the ambitious project by directors Andy and Lana Wachowski and Tom Tykwer. The adaptation of David Mitchell‘s novel Cloud Atlas hits theaters October 26th, and these new photos show Tom Hanks and Halle Berry in the sci-fi part of the story as they meet in an advanced civilization. Then we see Jim Broadbent and Ben Whishaw, a composer and his apprentice in a darkly comic story.
