One thing we didn’t get enough of in Star Trek: Into Darkness was Klingons! Sure, they showed up with Bat’leth and we got a cool fight scene, but that wasn’t enough.
On Khitomer the Kilingon are setting up base when Romulans attack. Kirk and new crew mates are caught in the middle of this age old conflict before heading out on to the Enterprise’s five year mission.
Mike Johnson writes with the aid of Roberto Orci to continue the new Star Trek universe beyond the screen. Fajar’s art style fits, drawing accurate portrayals of the new cast and some very mean looking Klingons.
Of note, two characters make their way onto the Enterprise bridge in this issue, Sulu’s sister Yuki and another formidable female, Carol Marcus from the second movie. We hope to see both of these ladies on the screen and in the pages of Star Trek in the days to come. Technician Yuki Sulu wears a read tunic, we pray for her safe survival in this, The Khitomer Conflict, part 1 of 4.

Last ish, Bendis threw in an Ultimate version of favorite Marvel U.-sort-of-neutral-badguy Taskmaster as a tool of Roxxon to root out Cloak and Dagger and the Spider-Kids, (Spider-Man, Miles Morales and Spider-Girl, Jessica Drew—female clone of Peter Parker!).
For those waaaayyy not following along, Ultimate Peter is dead.
There’s a new Spider-Man who has had a book for so long that Bendis has already gone to a Spider-Man: No More storyline.
To be fair to the exalted Marvel architect, Bendis did this in such a way that you have no complaints for me. After Venom killed Miles Morales’ Mom, the next issues time jump a year into the future, where, you guessed it, Miles throws his mask in the trash. Or maybe the recycling bin for the update.
In this penultimate issue for the arc, Spidey and Spider-Girl defend their best after being paralyzed by Anthony Masters—Taskmaster. New angsty mutant Bombshell along with Cloak and Dagger help subdue old Tasky by combining their powers together like a puzzle.
With the threat out of the way, our heroes move on to get to the bottom of this Roxxon mess.
Another standout issue here, this continues to be the flagship of the Ultimate line, and this time with David Marquez (All New X-Men) absolutely slaying it on art, complimenting years of Bagley and Pichelli’s contributions to the book.

“Mojo Jojo”!
It has been years since I’ve screamed this at the TV.
Now I’m screaming it on every other page of another terrific all ages licensed property from IDW.
Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup are back into my life—and I don’t need to have a Cutie Mark to prove how much I love this kinda stuff!
Girl empowerment, cuteness, a mayor with a sash, an evil monkey bent on destroying Townsville…these are all the best.
Why is IDW dropping this book now? I don’t know but please let this 5 issue series take off so we can have more.
Ms. Bellum, the benevolent Miss Teschmacher of the series makes an appearance as well Professor Utonium in this hilarious funnybook of classic cartoon gags and plenty (too many to list) Easter Eggs for the hardcore Powerpuff fans!
Craig McKracken’s original look for the girls is faithfully held up by Canadian writer and artist Troy Little (Angora Napkin). Rumor has it that his wife Brenda Hickey can be found drawing My Little Pony comics. That sounds like a fun house!

A punk private detective takes a case of a hit-and-run and discovers there is more to the creep than just avoiding insurance paperwork.
Dark and Broody like Ennis’ Preacher, our hero holds his own while outsmarting a very bad man.
Excellent black and white artwork and story, the first of two on the store.
We’ll be checking back in on this supernatural private investigator in the months to come!
