2013 Holiday Gift Guide:
Kid-Stuff

Anteater Bug Vac

This baby anteater has an appetite for collecting all kind of insects and bugs! After collecting the bugs, watch them in the anteater’s removable belly observation chamber! When you’re done, safely release them back into nature!

Or, you can eat them, what do I care.

The Desktop 3D Printer

This is a gift for those people who love their kids more than other parents. Who understand that the only way to truly express parental love is to hand a child a 3-D printer and allow them to make things that will no one will think is very good.

Oh, and who won’t mind spending $1300 on a gift that will ultimately end up broken in a closet.

Here’s some additional info:

This is the printer that creates exact, three-dimensional reproductions of objects. Over a thousand free designs, such as an iPhone case, a bracelet, and the Sphinx of Hatshepsut can be downloaded from a website and the printer extrudes 1/125″-thin layers of warm, viscous thermoplastic that hardens within seconds, forming a solid, three-dimensional meticulous reproduction. Three-dimensional prints can measure up to 5 1/2″ cu. and for intricate designs that require reinforcement during printing, the device automatically incorporates plastic supports that can be removed when the print is finished. Design files are exported to the printer via Wi Fi or the included USB flash drive and the printer’s touchscreen control panel allows you to optimize print settings. Additional designs can be purchased and downloaded from the website or generated using three-dimensional modeling software (not included). Includes one cartridge of neon green plastic (additional colors available below) that yields up to 14 three-dimensional prints. Compatible with Windows 8, 7, Vista or XP and Mac OSX 10.8. 10″ sq. x 13″ H.

MakeDo Plane Kit

Introduce children to the idea of using found materials as the building blocks for their creativity – see how they take to the skies with Makedo. Find and Make Plane includes Makedo’s plastic Safe-saw for punching holes and cutting cardboard safely, Re-clips and Lock-hinges to connect materials together quickly and easily, stickers for decorating, and easy to follow instructions.

Makedo nurtures a child’s imagination, develops their creative thinking skills and encourages role-play as children soar through the air with the Plane creation they’ve proudly made. All parts are reusable, so next time create a different plane for hours and hours of fun.

Fabric Sun Photo Kit

The Fabric Sun Photo Kit comes with light-sensitive fabric, plastic sheets for making patterns, a pencil for drawing on the plastic, and instructions. Children take a plastic sheet and draw on it with the kit’s pencil. Next, children can put the plastic over the fabric and lay any objects – such as leaves, feathers or paper shapes – on top of it in concert with the drawing. Children then place another sheet of plastic on top and clip all three pieces together (with the clips provided). Next, children lay all the layers out in the sun from 5 to 15 minutes, depending on weather and season. This will result in the shapes being transferred from the plastic to the fabric, batik-style.

Zombie Attack Bot

This is the robotic companion that is susceptible to a zombie virus, requiring his owner to blast him into submission whenever he succumbs to an undead frenzy. When healthy, this bot behaves pleasantly, responding to directional controls from his owner’s remote, until the touch of a button turns him berserk. With sounds and LED lights to indicate his madness, he refuses to comply with the remote’s commands and autonomously lumbers about in search of brains (or perhaps batteries). The owner then has 30 seconds to fire soft darts from the zombie blaster, aiming to knock off his arms and take out the central processor in his braincase before the virus claims another victim.

Rocketship Playhouse

Kids love to pretend stuff (I’m told that this is something they do) so why not promote a far more preferable fantasy life by giving them a playhouse that will send them into faux space rather than a subservient castle (I’m looking at you moms and dads of girls).

Yeah, I’m telling you to buy this for your female offspring so that they grow up wanting to be Neil deGrasse Tyson rather than frakking Kim Karashian.

They’ll thank you.

Fox Sleeping Bag

What does the fox say?  With this adorably cute sleeping bag, I’m pretty sure it’s Zzzzzzz.

Why the hell is all the cute stuff made for kids?  I mean it’s not like they actually deserve these things, they don’t have jobs or anything…oh yeah, you can get the sleeping bag personalized as well….I wonder how much it extra it would cost to have Ungrateful Hellspawn embroidered on it.

Intergalactic Playset

This space station playset is “out of this world,”. At over 40″ tall and featuring five levels, space characters and equipment , playtime will certainly take them to the Final Frontier of fun.

I would add even more Space-related cliches to describe this sweet toy, but why waste good column space on being more awesome than the playset.

Marshmallow Shooter

Keep your children battle ready with this Marshmallow Shooter kit that requires no tools, glue, or special materials to build. All you need is some time and a bag of mini-marshmallows.

Then you can sit back and watch your kids try and bean on another with sugar bombs.

It’s the memories that make it all worth it.

Kinetic Sand

Kinetic Sand is one of those weird products that it seems a shame to not buy and give to a kid.  It molds easily, stays clumped and better yet, will keep kids mesmerized for days.  It’s based on 98% pure sand and it has a patented technology that will keep the sand moving for hours with losing its strength.

I played with it myself and found  it very zen-like, so buy a box for yourself as well, it might help de-stress your holidays.

Cabbage Patch Kid Wig

The only reason I can think of for having a kid is dressing them up like one of Xavier Roberts’ Cabbage Patch Kids for my amusement.

That probably is a good indication that I shouldn’t have children.

But there is no reason why you shouldn’t go ahead and slap a CPK wig on top of your baby and enjoy it…no reason at all.

Play-Doh Mega Set

Every kid needs a classic toy and what toy is more beloved (and eaten) than Play-Doh?

With more than 40 pieces and five cans of Play-Doh your kids can mold, shape, and cut nearly any creation they can imagine! This gigantic set includes scissors, plastic knife, pizza cutter, roller, Fun Factory extruder with two rails, play mat, 22 cutters, and five 5-ounce cans of Play-Doh modeling compound.

That should keep them busy.
