Since Death of the Family, the Joker has been missing, presumed dead. And Harley herself kicked off the New 52 by starring in Suicide Squad.
Last month, Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti gave Dr. Quinzel her own book in the form of an anthology introduction, Harley Quinn #0 with too many guest artists to even fit on the cover.
This month, the story takes off as we recommend Conner & Palmiotti’s new Harley Quinn #1 with series artist Chad Hardin. Harley rides a Harley into her new apartment in Coney Island left to her by an Arkham patient.
The series is off to a great start, and plenty of action and storytelling in this debut issue.
A Danzig lookalike Big Tony helps get her acquainted to the neighborhood just as she finds out she’ll still have some responsibilities in the building as landlord, mostly financial concerns. She applies to become a doctor in residence at a nursing home with some dangerous patients, and on the next page she is pwning a roller derby team tryout!
Fun stuff to watch Harley start over in the New 52, and also to explore her therapeutic side as she rekindles her practice.
But also this is fun because she hits people with a big wooden mallet.
Excited to see where this goes!

“Will Cobra Files Return” google search gives you a bunch of heart stopping health insurance results, not any information about the cessation of one Season 4 of G.I. Joe: Cobra.
We’re hoping Costa and Fuso haven’t been dropped from the IDW roster, this is the same book introducing Chuckles as a badass spy, the assassination of Cobra Commander and the destruction of Cobra Island, all in the first season.
This season concludes as Flint’s crew, in charge of a Las Vegas casino secret base, harbors surviving twin Crimson Guard twin Tamox, Cobra Commander’s son Billy, former Cobra turned Joe named Chameleon.
It turns out that Tamox has been manipulating the situation from the inside since his capture, and he knows something the Joes don’t. The building is rigged to explode! He and his brother built the casino as Extensive Enterprises with a long tail in mind.
Each season reads great in trade, we won’t spoil the end and are begging for more of this spy-fi series. Recommended for the James Bond or 24 fan!

The Illegitimates #1 was a pleasant surprise this week, edging out many other books for a shot at Triple Shot! Written by Marc Andreyko (Batwoman) and SNL cast member Taran Killam is a fun and funny book that is what happens when James Bond is KIA?
We find out that his best replacement might just be his illegitimate sons and daughters from years of spying on and seducing women from all over the world!
Jack Steele, our late patriarch is killed by longtime Russian enemy Dannikor, as he in real time (present day) approaches the end of a long career, putting him at around Connery’s age.
On observing the kill, the Olympus Agency reveals a secret plan to get back at Dannikor — unleash the children of Steele on their enemies for revenge!
We’re off to a great start with this mini series, hoping for more and seeing how a team of five half brothers and sisters can live up to their old man’s legacy. We’ll be keeping a Golden Eye on this one!

Over at ComiXology, we take a look at submitted titles each week, this part of the column is called Digital Chaser.
Mostly we concentrate on new work, distributed through the ComiXology Submit platform.
This week, we go back a couple of years to 2008’s Diary of Night, a vampire book finding a second life on devices and tablets.
Don’t worry, you can still read the comic in the sun on your tablet without fear of your skin burning!
Catherine Morrison is a 927 year-old vampire, living in the city and avoiding the big coven meet ups held by the Phoenix Foundation. She gets involved in the scene when a vampire is missing and she’s called upon to investigate, but is it a trap?
Fun vampire read, more Angel than Buffy as the good guys are vamps too.
Definitely worth revisiting the series on ComiXology for fans of good vampire stories, Gene Gonzalez slays it on the art!
