A true treat for fans of Hellboy in his twentieth year is this story set in 1952 written by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi. Frequent Bendis collaborator Alex Maleev, who’s painterly style defined a Daredevil run and slight to redefine a schizophrenic Moon Knight is a treat to see return to the Hellboy-verse.
To those familiar and to newcomers as well, the story takes place in the 50s — as we bear witness to Hellboy joining the B.P.R.D. in the field for the first time.
No doubt as this arc progresses, he will learn a lot about himself as he interacts with the team. Already he faces challenges like Agent Stegner’s prejudice and an uncertainty of his abilities in the field after being raised and coddled by the Department since he was discovered.
A series of 33 murders in a Brazilian village prompts the investigation into the supernatural which will be Hellboy’s first mission. Stay tuned to this series to see if he succeeds or fails.
Hellboy and the B.P.R.D. #1 is available on December 3. Highly recommended for Hellboy fans or new readers, considering the nature of this quasi-origin story.

This long overdue limited series is set fifty years after the events of the film. Kim’s granddaughter Megs is curious about the stories her grandma told her about Edward.
Meanwhile, still in isolation, Edward finds The Inventor’s abandoned plans for another small boy and attempts to resurrect the automaton.
To make a friend, a brother, to cure is adorable but insufferable loneliness?
Who knows?
What carries over is in Drew Rausch’s cartooning are important touchstones to the original.
Depp’s deep eyes set upon a pasty white face and Megs and her mom’s uncanny resemblance to that ‘Winona Rider thing’. You know that thing, the face that launched a thousand young women’s desire to paint their room black and perfect the fine art of eye rolling.
While not surprised that IDW is publishing another movie property, this one sort of comes out of left field. Again, the reverence to the fans and material makes for authentic dips into familiar territory, expanding our universes in comics when no movies or sequels may be possible.
I like the time jump in this story too, right to present day and having Kim still be part of the story as the deceased but not forgotten ‘Grandma’.
I’m all in on this story, coming out on Halloween Eve and have now dismantled all of the scissors and paper cutters in sight to make the perfect costume. Now, if someone can just tighten these buckles for me on this leather corset for me.

Here’s something a bit different, and not dissimilar to our friend Edward!
A new series called Cutter from Top Cow. The series was delivered weekly throughout October, so you can easily catch up and not get cut out!
Television writers Napton and Fahey set up the first issue as an unsolved murder case in a small town.
The first pages of this black and white book (doesn’t b&w make things so much scarier?) will have every dude out there grabbing for their junk and most of the women I know high-fiving each other! Cutter is brutal from the get go!
Jeremy and his friends from high school share a scary secret, but that secret may reveal who the shear-wielding murderer is! Mix a little Rectify with True Detective and I Spit On Your Grave and you have most of the parts to make this new horror comic.
All four issues will be collected into a single volume or grab them all digitally for unpleasant dreams this Halloween! Some pages are especially nightmarish for you dudes out there! Ladies — don’t get any ideas!

My favorite story references my favorite board game become movie, Clue. Delilah Dawson and Matthew Allen Smith’s clue(less) reveals Whodunnit, who they did it with and most importantly with what! (Gulp!)
