THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS Franchise Inspires Interest in Car Racing and Modification

Movies have always played their part in encouraging trends in car ownership, including the types of cars that people drive and the manner in which they operate them.

The Fast and The Furious film franchise may have encouraged new developments in modern car culture, due to the franchise’s extreme popularity.

Today, there seem to be more gear heads than ever before who are interested in racing and modifying cars.

Increased Interest in Street Racing

People may not know that The Fast and the Furious is based on an actual racer from Washington Heights, named Rafael Estevez. VIBE’s 1998 piece on Estevez, Racer X, became the inspiration for the first movie.

Since then, The Fast and the Furious franchise has made over 3.8 billion at box offices worldwide.

Naturally, that means millions of fans have seen these movies that glamorize the street racing lifestyle. These films dramatize the sheer excitement of street racing, and many people want to be able to replicate that emotional experience. They’re eager to get on the road and put the pedal to the medal.

However, street racing is not only a potentially dangerous activity; it is also illegal. While this combination may add to the excitement for many people, it can also cause serious legal problems.

The Guardian released an article titled, Fast and Furious Fuels Increase in Street Racing”, which describes how the LAPD arrested 6 illegal racers, seized countless vehicles, and disciplined over 200 spectators at an illegal street race during the opening weekend of the first movie.

The Interest in Modifying Cars

Estevez and his street racing buddies didn’t have access to super-fast cars, so they worked tirelessly to transform their own vehicles from standard-issue into speed demons.

In Racer X, Kenneth Li wrote, “they’re tricking out low-buck Japanese imports like Honda Civics and Acura Integras and tattooing them like skateboards with Neuspeed and Greddy car parts stickers. By stroking the engine, adding a supercharger, and hitting the “juice” (nitrous oxide: a gaseous liquid once used to boost bomber planes in WWII), they can smoke the herb in the Iroc at the stoplight.”

European cars have become increasingly popular because they can be more easily modified to reach the speeds that racing enthusiasts want. It is a process that requires genuine technical skill, which is part of the appeal for many fans of the Furious films.

Racing and Aftermarket Performance Parts

In order to modify cars, aftermarket parts and specialized tools are a necessity. A generous portion of people who are interested in this racing niche are especially interested in Audis, which are great cars to race and modify, due to the easy availability of parts.

People can have great success locating and purchasing Audi parts online through sites such as eEuroparts. This site, in particular, carries genuine Audi parts, as well as aftermarket performance parts to upgrade and modify your vehicle, turning it into a machine worthy of being featured in The Fast and Furious movies. Even if you cannot find the part you need listed on a site, they will order the part you need.

Movies have a tremendous effect on the way that people choose to live their lives. Some people may never have turned to racing if they had not seen The Fast and the Furious films.

If you’ve been inspired by these movies, there are many legal options for racing which don’t involve being ticketed or jailed. Use aftermarket parts to get your car in top condition and take it to the track, not the street.
