When a scientist officially announces that he and his team have successfully cloned a human, drama erupts as the debate about his research rages in politics, on the news, and at his front door.
Although all of this is just distracting from the growing problem in his own home stemming from neglected family and the secrets of previous experiments.
Closer To God is a slick looking film that is far more drama than horror, sci-fi, or thriller.
Writer director Billy Senese brings some great concepts and ideas to the story plus he works well with cinematographer Evan Spencer Brace to create some great looking scenes along with some creepy visuals.
Unfortunately the pace of the film seems inconsistent, we have an hour of drama followed by twenty minutes of horror / thriller with only a few minor connecting scenes throughout the narrative that do not give the viewer enough of a build for the climax to be tense.
As for the dramatic portion of the film though the acting is great and the interplay of the characters and commentary on the controversy that would surround a cloned human all seem realistic and genuine with much of the dramatic weight falling on Jeremy Childs as our lead scientist and father.
Overall Closer To God is a good film that doesn’t reach its potential, but I could certainly recommend checking it out when it pops up on a streaming service.
