When writing this very post at the a very public international coffee chain, I’ve noticed no less than three people casually glance at my screen and then hold their gaze a moment too long.
That’s because they can’t see anything.
And I like it that way.
Although I sometimes work with embargoed material and the occasional super NDA files, most of my work doesn’t need to be hidden from curious eyes. But, it’s not that way for everyone. As more and more people telecommute and work in wi-fi enabled environments, the act of viewing or capturing sensitive, confidential and privacy information for unauthorized use has become more and more common, becoming an under addressed security threat for many organizations.
According to 2015 study sponsored by 3M and executed through the Ponemon Institute, “a visual hacker may only need one piece of valuable information to unlock a large-scale data breach.”
Fortunately, I feel safe and less vulnerable. I’ve been using a 3M™ Privacy Filter/Screen Protectors for several months and it’s been invaluable in preventing both the casual observer and visual hackers from getting their eyes on sensitive and confidential information displayed on my monitor. When a casual or deliberate prying eye takes a look they only see a black screen.
