SDCC17: Adventures Outside The Con

The annual trek of the Nerd Herd to the coastal town of San Diego is almost upon us. The once a year venture out to Cali for collectibles, parties, autographs and the only sunlight many of us get. And like in past years, to be lost among the horde of convention floor.

If you can’t get into your panel, or if the convention floor is overrun with too many Harley Quinns and Jokers to walk comfortably, here is a look at the fun activities, goods and services going on outside of the convention so you can make the most of your Comic-Con.

 

FUN STUFF

CONAN Live @ Comic-Con
San Diego’s Spreckels Theater
July 19 – 22

The red-headed stepchild of late night television returns to the Con with live tapings of his show. Featuring everyone you want to see from all the movies that make your heart beat a little faster.

 

Adult Swim On The Green
July 20 – 23, 1 – 6 pm
Located at Convention Way & 5th Ave Pier Behind the Convention Center

 Have a fun and badge-free afternoon of hijinks when Adult Swim brings out their heavy hitters for a three days of insane, possibly time-altering fun.

At night, treat yourself of night screenings on the grass of all your favorite Adult Swim shows.

Activities include:

  • Adult Swim Presents: Things You’ve Never Seen – July 20, 8 – 10 pm
    • “Do you want to see things you’ve never seen before? Of course you do. It’s going to be completely mind blowing. We promise. Blankets and surprises provided.”
  • Streams on the Green – Wednesday – Sunday
    • “We’re beaming our streams directly into your dreams LIVE from Comic-Con.”
  • Adult Swim Presents: Rick and Morty – Saturday, July 22, 7:30 pm, Located at The Park at Petco Park Enter at East Village Gate
    • “Wubba-Lubba-Dub-Dub! Join us for an event so big we had to find more Green (we’re moving this one to Petco Park)! Have all life’s burning questions answered (no promises) at this special evening with creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon.”
  • The Rickmobile
    • “The #rickmobile is rolling all over San Diego all week long! Follow it on the interwebs to find out where we’ll be.”

 

FX Network’s Sessions: The Legion Mixed Reality Experience
Hilton Bayfront Park

 

“FX Networks announced an immersive mixed reality (MR) experience – powered by the Microsoft HoloLens – that will bring its critically-acclaimed series, Legion, to life at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Produced by immersive studio HERE BE DRAGONS, “Sessions: The Legion Mixed Reality Experience” will be FX’s main feature at FXHibition 2017, delivering cutting-edge technology to take fans through a one-of-a-kind experience.”

“FXHibition once again takes over the Hilton Bayfront Park in San Diego to bring immersive art experiences to fans based off of hit shows including, Legion, American Horror Story, The Strain, Atlanta and more.”

 

Her Universe Fashion Show
Thursday, July 20, Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel (RSVP Only)

The fourth annual Her Universe Fashion show, presented by Her Universe and Hot Topic will offer the femme fatales of sci-fi and comics and exclusive look at upcoming lines for all members of the glamourous geek squad.

 

HISTORY’s Viking Funeral
Friday, July 21 from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Embarcadero Marina Park South

“A one-day event to honor Ragnar Lothbrok and other beloved characters who have recently risen to Valhalla. The Vikings funeral will begin with a procession throughout the Gaslamp Quarter in the early afternoon from noon – 5:45 p.m. The funeral will conclude with a waterfront ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. featuring a floating 45-foot replica Viking longship with pyrotechnic display. Cast will be in attendance. Ceremony will be held behind the Convention Center at Embarcadero Marina Park South”

 

MTV Fandom Fest At Petco Park

“For the fourth year, the MTV Fandom Fest will celebrate the fans who have descended upon San Diego Comic-Con to raise their beloved television shows, movies, comic books, animation and more to global phenomenon.  “HISTORY is partnering with Comic-Con to offer the first ever external bag-check outpost: Knightfall’s Guardians of the Gear at the centrally located MLK Promenade from July 20-23.

SDCC badge-holders can store their bags free of charge next to the Holy Grail and under the watchful eyes of the Knights Templar.”
