Welcome back to Graphic Breakdown, The Friday edition!

Here are a few good titles to get your weekend going.

DuckTales #1
Written by Joe Caramgna
Illustrated by Lucas Usai
Published by IDW Publishing

This is awesome!

The series DuckTales is coming back to television! And now it has a brand new comic!

Donald and his wacky duckbilled nephews are back, and life is good once again!

This issue has two tales in it.

One is entitled “The Great Experiment of the Washing Machine.” I loved the fast pacing of this particular story. I probably laughed harder in that first 5 pages of this comic more than any other comic book this year. Watching Donald and the boys get shrunk was hilarious.

The second tale is “The Chilling Secret of The Lighthouse.” It’s just as fun as the first. Pick this up. It’s definitely fun for you and for your kids.

RATING: A

Kingsman: The Red Diamond #1
Written by Rob Williams
Illustrated by Simon Fraser
Published by Image Comics

It had to happen. A new Kingsman movie is coming out so they had to put out a new Kingsman comic book.

It doesn’t have Mark Millar or Dave Gibbons on it.

How is it? Well, I found it lacking. I wish it were better than this.

This comic book takes place just after the original comic book ended. Eggsy is now a fully fledged Kingsman! He is trying to live the superspy life. It’s… less than interesting. Williams isn’t quite the writer Millar is.

The humor is forced, the action is clunky, and it isn’t as fun as the first series was.

The art doesn’t help much. It’s a little too cartoony for my tastes. Suffice to say, this could be better. Maybe, it’ll pick up. Let’s hope.

RATING: C+

The Evil Within #1
Written by Ryan O’Sullivan
Illustrated by Damien Worm
Published by Titan Comics

This comic book is based on a video game I have never played.

It is a prequel to the sequel of the same video game. It wasn’t bad in both writing and art.

I feel the people who will like this comic book best are gamers.

Detective Sebastian Castellanos is shell shocked by the crazy events from the Beacon Mental Hospital. He won’t get much rest. There is a new serial killer on the loose. He’s got to get back in the game…hopefully in time?

The writing is pretty decent. The art is better than I was expecting.

I still think gamers will like this best.

For the rest of us, it isn’t bad. Not for everyone, but still not a bad read.

RATING: B

FuJitsu #1
Written by Jai Nitz
Illustrated by Wes St. Claire
Published by Aftershock Comics

Aftershock keeps rolling out the comics!

Here is another fine book by those fine folks over there! This is a boatload of fun. They really put together a cool creative team here with Nitz and St. Claire.

This book follows the tale of Fu, who is unaging immortal. He is sworn to protect the Earth from Robert Wadlow, who is the tallest man on Earth. That’s the basic gist of the series and it’s such a good time.

Nitz creates a great character in Fu. He is a genius who has traveled the globe. He’s met a ton of icons in his time. Nitz handles him well and the characterization is great. The tone is wonderful as is the art.

Buy this book. It’s good stuff.

Gasolina #1
Written by Sean Mackiewicz
Illustrated by Niko Walter
Published by Image Comics

Image Comics continues their tradition in delivering high quality, high impact original books with this title.

I was hooked about five pages in with the sharp writing and art and I didn’t look back.

This book is about two fugitives, who are also newlyweds, named Randy and Amalia. They become leaders of a rebellion against a terrible and inhuman new cartel. They are the most unlikely two to lead.

The writing is something unique.

The two main characters are firmly planted in the real world. The art is pretty cool too. It could have stood a bit more excitement but overall it’s an excellent debut issue.

RATING: B+

James Bond 007: Moneypenny #1
Written by Jody Houser
Illustrated by Jacob Edgar
Published by Dynamite Entertainment

This one-shot features the  James Bond character Moneypenny. And who better to write it than the wonderful Jody Houser?

Naomi Harris plays Moneypenny in the movies recently.

So, Houser takes that version and dives deeper into the character. The first few pages are a sort of origin story of Moneypenny as a young person growing up to who she is today.

Then it leads to a grand adventure. We see glimpses of the past throughout. Houser does a great job balancing the two storylines.

The art is a tad lackluster and brings the book down. This would have been a better issue with a stronger artist.

Still, Houser’s story makes a huge difference. Not a bad book, overall.

RATING: B

World of Animosity  #1
Written by Marguerite Bennett
Illustrated by Rafael DeLattore and Juan Doe
Published by Aftershock Comics

Animals have risen up in the Aftershock universe to take revenge.

It’s an apocalypse tale like none other in this comic! This issue is more of a guide of the book.

How was it?

I dislike guidebooks. It costs too much and I never feel any interest in them.

That’s the same here. The artwork is fine when it’s there. This is just a waste of time for me. Give me a real comic.

RATING: C-
