Richard and Wendy Pini’s Award-Winning Creation Earns Epic Finale
All good things must come to an end. Dark Horse Comics is both proud and sad to announce the end of ElfQuest: The Final Quest. After 40 years of genre bending and award-winning content, Wendy and Richard Pini are stepping away from their beloved series to take a well-deserved break and to focus on other projects and ventures.
“How simple, like the closing of a door, a 40-year labor of love comes to the conclusion we ordained so long ago,” explained artist Wendy Pini. “Richard and I can barely express our joy at the love we’re receiving from fans around the world. We return that love and look forward to our continued association with Dark Horse. Nothing’s more fun for us than being the guiding hands behind other creators’ interpretations of the elves.”
“I’ve followed ElfQuest since it’s very first publication. It took me several decades to finally bring Richard and Wendy’s wonderful creation to Dark Horse, and we’re proud they’ve chosen us to present the final chapters of their epic story,” said Mike Richardson, Dark Horse president and founder. “As a publisher, I couldn’t find better people to work with. As a fan, I couldn’t be more honored.”
ElfQuest: The Final Quest #24 finds heroes’ journeys that started in the Original Quest coming to their resolutions here. Fateful events set in motion last issue continue to have unstoppable consequences, as dire battles are fought on both the physical and the spiritual realms. Now decisions must be made that will affect everyone—elves and humans alike— on the World of Two Moons far into the future. Can the Great Wheel of time and history, broken so many thousands of years ago, ever be made whole again?
ElfQuest: The Final Quest #24 goes on sale February 28, 2018, and is available for preorder at your local comic shop. February 28, 2018, marks the 40th anniversary of ElfQuest #1’s release date. To commemorate this historic occasion, Things From Another World Milwaukie will host Richard and Wendy on February 28, 2018 from 6-9 PM for a special ElfQuest: The Final Quest signing. Fans are encouraged to RSVP on Facebook.
Joseph Keatinge and Wook Jin Clark Bring FLAVOR to The Menu This May
Writer Joseph Keatinge (GLORY, SHUTTER) and artist Wook Jin Clark (Adventure Time: The Flip Side) team up with colorist Tamra Bonvillain, letterer Ariana Maher, designer Rich Tommaso, and culinary consultant Ari Bouzari (Ingredient: Unveiling the Essential Elements of Food) for a delectable new adventure this May: FLAVOR.
Within a strange walled city, chefs are the ultimate celebrity and food is the most valued commodity. But underage, unlicensed chef Xoo is about to uncover a mystery that just might bring everything crumbling down…

“This book is my dream book with a dream team,” said Clark. “I’m so excited to be a part, and so pumped to share!”

Image Comics to Publish Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin’s Miniseries BARRIER
Brian K. Vaughan and Marcos Martin, the Eisner Award-winning creative team behind THE PRIVATE EYE, are reunited in BARRIER, the five-issue miniseries originally published in digital format via Panel Syndicate and featuring color work by Muntsa Vicente. This May, all five issues will be available in print for the first time, exclusively from Image Comics.
BARRIER is a truly unconventional drama that tackles violence, language, and illegal immigration—with a shocking sci-fi twist. Printed in its original “landscape” format and graced with gorgeous cardstock covers, each comic is meant to be a durable work of art.
“I’m enormously proud of this story, not least because it features some of the best artwork ever from the incomparable Marcos Martin and Muntsa Vicente,” said Vaughan. “Everyone behind PanelSyndicate.com is so excited that Image is bringing this story to print and making these five extra-sized issues available exclusively through local comic shops. Gracias!”
“Una historia sobre las barreras que levantamos entre nosotros y el viaje necesario para comprender que todos compartimos un mismo destino,” dijo Martin. “We hope you’ll enjoy the trip!”
Mature readers will be able to pick up the massive 50-plus-page first issue for free on Free Comic Book Day on May 5th.

Publisher Eric Stephenson Added to Image Comics Board of Directors
Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson—credited by many for ushering in the Image Comics Renaissance—is joining Robert Kirkman, Erik Larsen, Todd McFarlane, Marc Silvestri, and Jim Valentino as a member of the company’s Board of Directors.
“In early 1992—right after we’d founded Image—the best piece of advice I gave my friend and occasional studio mate, Rob Liefeld, was to hire Eric to be his editor,” said Valentino. “In the years since, Eric’s been the editor-in-chief for Extreme Studios, he was first my right-hand-man and then Erik Larsen’s when we each served as Publisher, and then eventually the Publisher himself. Eric has proven himself loyal, dedicated, hard working, patient, tolerant, talented, and nearly unflappable. His instincts and his leadership have proven a boon not only to Image Comics, but to the comics industry as a whole. He has made us all proud. His becoming our latest partner is, in my opinion, long overdue.”
During the 10 years since Stephenson was named Publisher, Image Comics has risen from fifth to third-ranked publisher in the industry—maintaining that rank for seven years running. Over that period, Image has received Diamond’s Gem Award for Best Publisher three years in a row from 2014 to 2016. Stephenson individually has been honored with ComicsPRO’s Industry Appreciation Award and was named The Beat’s Industry Person of the Year in 2014, as well as being ranked in the Top 10 on Bleeding Cool’s Power List every year since its inception in 2012. Under Stephenson’s watch, Image has onboarded an unprecedented number of game-changing new series, with Image titles winning nearly three dozen Eisner Awards, across a variety of categories, as well as dominating bestseller lists.
“As publisher of Image Comics over the past decade, Eric has helped grow this company and helped attract the very best writers and artists this industry has to offer, and it’s that tireless pursuit of excellence that has now earned him the title Chief Creative Officer as our newest partner,” said McFarlane. “We hope this move emphasizes the stability we will continue to bring to our company and more importantly, with Eric’s addition to Image’s board of directors, it will assure retailers and creators alike that the key person you have all grown accustomed to working with is going to be there for you for many years to come.”
