This issue has a great first page that sets the precedent for the rest of the issue.
Marv Wolfman really is a classic comic book writer. He starts off strong and gives solid writing throughout. It’s very good.
The issue starts off with Raven and her mother, Arella, laying in defeat at the hands of some villains known as the Shadow Riders. They are well designed and drawn by Pop Mhan and seem like a hell of a threat.
In a really creepy scene, Raven and Arella get away from them. But the evil doers are set loose on the planet! The scene was very thrilling and I was amazed by how dark the visuals got.
Mhan really has come a long way.
That demon Trigon wants to come to Earth and take it over. And Raven and Arella are the key. Wolfman handles the issue well, with great plot points.
The end of the issue shows just how much of a threat Trigon really is. It looks like he might win. The issue ends on a cliffhanger and it’s really good. It’s compelling and never lets up on the enormous tension.
If there is any problem with this series, it’s that Trigon has been haunting Raven with the same goals since the 1980s. It’s either time to find a new motivation or a new villain.
Overall, it’s a good book. I look forward to reading the rest.
