Emmy Nominations 2018: Netflix Beats Out HBO In Emmy Race

For the first time in almost two decades, cable giant HBO hasn’t dominated the Emmy nominations. Instead, streaming service Netflix tops the noms with 112 total, four more than Home Box Office’s mere 108 nominations.

Thanks to shows such as GLOW, Stranger Things, Black Mirror, The Crown, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and movies like House of Tomorrow, Netflix’s presence was felt throughout all of the categories, from acting nods to makeup to the best drama field.

And while HBO dukes it out with Netflix, primetime nets continue to lose ground to cable channels and streaming services who make up a bulk of the noms this year. While NBC continues to lead the pack with an impressive 78 noms, FX followed with an equally impressive 50 noms. CBS and ABC followed suit with a somewhat anemic 34 and 31 nominations a piece.

Hosted by Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update’s Michael Che and Colin Jost, the 70th annual Primetime Emmys are set to air on NBC on Sept. 17 from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
