It’s part four of the storyline called “Constriction!” Deadshot and Batman track down Deadshot’s kidnapped daughter, Zoe! She is in trouble with the gang known as Kobra!
Can they save her?
Can Deadshot and Batman get along for more than five minutes?
Will the Suicide Squad get there in time to back up Batman and Deadshot?
Or is everything just going to Hell in a hand basket?
Rob Williams has obviously never heard of the word “subtle.” I know this, because this issue is the opposite of that. But at least it’s a laugh and a fun time.
We open the issue with Batman and Deadshot in free fall over a water dam. Captain Cold is shooting at them. They escape Cold and wash up on shore. Then they make their way into Kobra’s lair.
There’s a whole mess of wackiness going on when they enter. The Suicide Squad shows up. Then Deadshot is turned into a human kind of snake. I kid you not. It’s like an old G.I. Joe cartoon come to life.
So the Suicide Squad and Batman now have to save Deadshot from being this snake permanently. It’s pretty nuts until the end. There is a nice scene between Zoe and Batman, but it feels a little too late. The issue ends wrapping up the story fairly quickly. It’s entertaining but still vaguely unsatisfying overall.
I have to say I have been loving the art on this title lately. Williams may be going crazy on that story but the art by Joe Bennett is good and creative. It grounds the story a bit which is a great thing.
It all adds up to a good looking issue that is mindless fun.
