‘Adventures of the Super Sons #1’ (review)

Written by Peter J. Tomasi
Illustrated by Carlo Barberi
Published by DC Comics

I’m so glad these characters are back in a book together and that it’s written by Peter J. Tomasi. It starts off with Superboy eating popcorn. On the next page, we find that Robin is in a fight and Superboy is just watching it happen.

It’s a funny scene that made me laugh out loud. Especially because Robin is fighting a Superman statue that has come to life!

We see that the Puppeteer is there and so they capture him. But it turns out that he might not be the one responsible for this statue coming to life!

Here’s the thing: if he’s not, then who is?

Tomasi then shows us Damian and Jon at school. It is their last day before summer break.

Jon proclaims to Damian that this is going to be the “Summer of Super!”

They then find themselves almost immediately locked into another fight.

Tomasi keeps the tone light. There are plenty of laughs. The reveal of the “Gang” of villains at the end of the book made me laugh. You have to read it to believe it. But trust me when I say that it’s hysterical and laugh out loud funny.

The art by Barberi is tops. He is at the top of his game here in this book. The action scenes are awesome and everything just pops off the page. I loved the previous series. It’s looks like this one may indeed follow suit.

RATING: B+
