‘Mother Panic Gotham A.D. #6’ (review)

Written by Jody Houser
Illustrated by Ibrahim Moustafa
Published by DC Comics

And here we are. The last book in the current incarnation of the Young Animal line.

And this last issue may in fact be the strangest.

Kudos to writer Jody Houser for keeping things going on this title. This has been a great run and I hope that this character returns.

This issue starts with the weirdest thing that Houser has attempted.

We get to see Mother Panic fight a weirdo version of Batman. The fight is pretty thrilling too but it’s completely off kilter and strange. And I loved that.

Houser doesn’t compromise the tone and I think that it is great.

That fight takes up a good portion of the first half of the issue. Once they settle their differences, the two warriors calm it down and decide to part ways. Mother Panic then goes about her way and it all leads to her final fate.

I don’t want to say much about the ending.

Mr. Freeze is involved in it. But it all leads to a last image that is perfect for this book. The last lines of the series are perfect as well and fits the image perfectly.

The art by Ibrahim Moustafa really was excellent for these last six issues. Moustafa and Houser really took it to another level. It’s been a strange, wacky ride in the world of Young Animal.

I hope we get to return to it one day soon.

RATING: B+
