After the craziness of the last few issues, you’d think that writer Rob Williams might take it easy.
Nope! He ratchets the crazy up to 11 and makes a story that’s even nuttier than what’s come before!
He’s leaving this title soon and I’m not sure if I’ll miss him or be happy he’s gone. (It’s most just because I loved John Ostrander’s Suicide Squad run and this is nothing like it).
In the latest issue of Aquaman, the city of Atlantis comes to the surface! This means a crossover!
There’s trouble afoot in Atlantis.
So why do you think the Suicide Squad is sent in there?
You guessed it! It’s time to send that city back where it came from!
It’s anything but subtle but a hell of a lot of fun. Williams only has a few issues left and he looks to end on a totally nutty high point. Or maybe that’s just what I’m hoping for.
The opening scene had me cracking up. Since Atlantis is coming to the surface, we see a beach. People playing volleyball. Then, a huge friggen tidal wave comes by and wipes them all out. I was laughing. Thanks to Rob Williams for making this happen.
Williams also made me laugh in the next scene with Mera. In conversation, he mentions that Aquaman’s favorite movie is The Godfather. I don’t know why, but it’s completely hilarious to me.
And so, the Suicide Squad gears up! Amanda Waller has a new agent who is Lord Satanis. He looks like Magneto from hell. Nobody is too thrilled. But the heck with it! They are off on their mission!
It all leads the Suicide Squad into the heart of Atlantis and a hell of a last page. They find a nuke. It’s then that they realize that they weren’t sent to just sink Atlantis. They were actually sent to destroy the entire kingdom.
It’s a lot of fun. The art by Luis is pretty good as well. He’s developing into a hell of a talent. It has a lot of funny moments, a ton of crazy adventure, and cool hero shots. What more could you ask for?
