This issue is just ridiculous fun!
Superboy and the Damian Wayne Robin fight this new gang called The Gang. These kids in The Gang have modeled themselves after their favorite super villains.
For example, the leader of the gang is Rex Luthor. It’s so silly and it’s even sillier that it totally works. I was laughing out loud for a lot of this.
The issue starts out with a part of the origin of The Gang. It’s intriguing enough and I assume that it will be built upon in upcoming issues. Then we cut to the fight between The Gang and the Super Sons. It’s hilarious and just pure entertainment.
The Gang eventually defeats the Super Sons and takes them hostage.
They take them to the Fortress of Solitude. Rex figures that they can use the Fortress to help power the Cube that brought them to this world. But once they have what they want, it becomes time to kill the Super Sons.
And that’s when it’s time to fight back again. and so they do.
It’s all very cute and fun. Tomasi keeps things surprising and light. I love the Gang. They are just hilarious. The miniature versions of the Joker and Deadshot especially are just great overall.
It has an interesting cliffhanger too as Superboy discovers what happens around Red Kryptonite. The last splash page is hilarious.
The art is very good as Barberi comes into his own with this title. It’s well done and well crafted. His art is great and makes the whole book flow and is exciting. Overall, it’s a very nice second issue in a 12 issue limited series.
