‘Detective Comics #989’ (review)

Written by James Robinson
Illustrated by Stephen Segovia
Published by DC Comics

James Robinson continues his run on this title here and it’s quite excellent.

He has a great classic take on the character and it feels just right. I hope he continues writing it again beyond this run as he’s a good fit for this title.

Batman has to fight two versions of the villain Firefly in this issue. Their names are Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum .

We start the issue following Batman and Alfred in the Batcave discussing these two and figuring out how to stop them both. Robinson has a great take on both characters and he really does well in this opening scene.

From there we see the two villain discussing plans.

This sets up the rest of the issue where Batman is called to the roof of police headquarters to meet up with Commissioner Gordon.

Batman gets an idea of where the two are and he goes and finds them!

The rest of the issue is sheer awesomeness as we have a fight and then a surprise villain at the end! It’s exciting because in the next issue we will get to see how Robinson handles that villain.

Stephen Segovia is the perfect artist for this title. His work here is just spectacular and he is the perfect Batman artist. The story isn’t groundbreaking but it’s incredibly solid. I’m enjoying it though and it ranks high for good entertainment value.

RATING: B+
