This series has been a ton of fun thus far!
Tomasi brings a nice, light tone to this book that is complimented beautifully by artist Barberi.
This issue is especially fun as the Super Sons find themselves traveling through time and space in this issue. It just opens up the storytelling possibilities in a great way!
So the Gang has the Super Sons in their spaceship in the opening scene. The Gang is a younger version of the classic super villain Injustice Gang team including Lex Luthor and the Joker (the mini Deadshot kills me).
Anyway, the Gang fights the Super Sons and it’s an all out battle to start the issue.
Superboy gets hit with something and suddenly we have a Red and Blue version of Superboy flying around. I love this take on the old Red/Blue Superman and that they are using it on Superboy. Tomasi makes it a tongue in cheek experience and it’s just a good time.
The whole issue is basically this long fight on the spacecraft. But I’m okay with it. It’s a big fight sequence basically. The best one is when we get to see Damian go up against mini Lex Luthor. I particularly enjoyed them throwing shots at each other both verbally and physically.
Eventually they fight so much that they crash the spacecraft! I laughed out loud at that scene as it’s particularly nuts.
They land on an alien world where they are confronted with somebody named Space Cabbie! He’s offering them a ride back to Earth! But the Gang is there on his little spacecraft! What’s going to happen? I have no idea but I can’t wait to find out.
Tomasi and Barberi make for a good team. The art and story work well and it makes for a book that doesn’t take itself too seriously. And that’s a good thing. It’s just a pure, one hundred percent good time.
