It has been a fun and far out ride thus far for this title. Superboy and the Damian Wayne Robin work extremely well as a comedy duo and as fellow adventurers. And Tomasi is the perfect writer to chronicle their adventures together.
So in this issue, the duo find themselves on a distant planet.
They are there because of the villainous team known as the Gang. The Gang is a hilarious version of the classic DC characters like Lex Luthor, the Joker, etc. Except these are the kid versions of these villains.
Tomasi gets a lot of mileage out of them, too, and it’s a fun and lovely take on them.
So they all end up on a planet called the “Planet of Mystery.” Sounds like a fun place! And with Tomasi writing, it certainly is!
The opening half of the book is the Super Sons headed towards that planet. The dialogue especially is very funny in this part.
Then they land and the whole thing just flips around.
The Super Sons make their way to a place in the middle of a wooded like area. They go to rest and gather their strength. And they go to a really creepy kind of mausoleum to do so. Sadly though, the place starts to really mess with their heads.
Tomasi keeps the rest of the issue lively. The duo start seeing different alternative versions of themselves in this place.
And it ends on a crazy cliffhanger that whets your appetite for the next issue.
Barberi gamely draws whatever Tomasi puts forth. He does an amazing job and he’s what this title needs. This is an excellent issue in a nicely done series.
