This is an example of a book that I thought might grab me but didn’t.
I love the character of Nightwing, but this direction is semi-lame and just kind of dull. I wanted to like it but found myself skipping through the book out of sheer boredom.
You can’t blame artist Chris Mooneyham though. His art is just fantastic and fits the character perfectly. The line work and the storytelling are both there and it’s visceral for sure. There’s just a lot of padding in the story.
In the beginning, we get a lot of Nightwing’s doubt over the course of seven pages. After a while, I just sat there and was like “hit something!” It just went on and on and I was bored.
Finally, though, something happens.
A body is found. A mystery begins. Gas comes out of the body! There is a shooter!
It looks like the plot is moving forward and we are going to finally get some excitement in this book!
And then, we are back to the Dick Grayson pity party. He does get onto the case eventually but by that time I was tuned out. The investigation doesn’t move quick enough for me. But the ending seemed interesting enough. Maybe the next issue will turn things around?
If they had stronger writing this could be an “A+” book. Right now it is just a solid “C”, unfortunately. Hopefully it picks up.
