This issue starts off with an awesome introduction. I really enjoyed it as it sets up for the rest of the issue.
Amanda Waller is tied to a chair and she is beaten. She spends the first few pages trying to figure out how she got there.
And then from there things really get interesting.
There is somebody talking and taunting Waller that the reader doesn’t see. They point out that there is a scar on the back of her neck. The voice points out that it’s from one of her brain bombs that is now inside of her head. She’s trying to figure out if she’s in space or underwater.
And that’s when the robot appears telling Waller to keep the voice talking.
The robot comes over to Amanda and instructs her to remain quiet.
Is the robot going to free her? What is it’s purpose? What the heck do these people want from Amanda anyway? All of these questions are asked in the first few pages.
We then cut over to Rick Flag and he’s in a domestic setting. Things seem calm. That is, until Katana comes over and tells him that he is needed. From there, we see the Suicide Squad team coming together. And then, they track Amanda Waller down. But finding her may in fact be the worst thing to happen to all of them.
Williams writes a great first chapter that is is solid. His work is always at its best when he’s not going crazy writing a shared storyline. The art is decent as well. I’m interested to see how this resolves itself. This is pretty good thus far.
