The last issue was one of the best issues of Tom King’s Batman run. It’s a good thing that this picks up right where that one left off. King put his story into overdrive and I am at the edge of my seat reading each issue. This book is becoming a modern day classic. It’s seriously that good.
At the beginning of this book, we see Commissioner Gordon asking to see the files of the earlier Batman/Mr. Freeze case. Gordon is starting to believe Batman may be off his nut.
And then right after, we have a scene where Batman tracks down Maxie Zeus. He knows Maxie just got out of Arkham Asylum.
Batman wants to know who ran Arkham while he was in there.
Was it Bane like Batman thinks?
We also see a third scene where Alfred is keeping watch over the Penguin, who he has as a prisoner.
King keeps these three storylines going throughout the issue. The three intertwine very well.
Batman seemingly beats the hell out of Maxie.
Gordon finds out. Is this information to be trusted?
Gordon seems to think so. He takes a baseball bat and destroys the Bat-Signal. Things seem to be falling apart quickly.
King keeps the reader in their toes throughout. Eventually, we are just left with the Alfred and Penguin scene. Batman shows up at the end for that one. And there’s a surprise cliffhanger that comes from out of left field. That being said, it’s so interesting I’m willing to go with it. I trust Tom King.
The art by Janin and Fornes is very good. I like Fornes. He has a David Mazzucchelli style to his art. I’m already dying for the next issue. This is the normal pace for me now reading this comic and it’s a great thing.
