This issue is the start of a new storyline. It starts off a lot more positive and happy than the previous one.
Batgirl is swinging through Gotham City and she is joyous. And it’s actually a welcome sight to see. Sometimes comic books focus on the grim and gritty too much and it’s nice to see a character actually enjoying what it is they are doing.
It isn’t long before Batgirl comes upon some trouble however. She watches as he father, Commissioner Gordon, holds back a mob who want the GCPD taken apart. There is a rally being held and a call for investigations. Luciana Alejo is making an impassioned speech but the crowd is just getting more riled up.
On top of that, trouble isn’t far off and all hell is about to be let loose.
A bunch of hoodlums make trouble at the rally. Commissioner Gordon and Batgirl have a confrontation and he expresses his dislike for her. But then there is an explosion! Then, everyone is under attack! But by who? And what is it that they want?
Batgirl runs after the party responsible. She eventually chases one of them down. It turns out that one of the criminals is Jason Bard. He eventually gets the upper hand on her and gets away. Just what is Bard and his gang trying to get away with?
Barbara goes into her civilian identity and talks with her father. He walks in on his daughter researching Luciana Alejo. Needless to say, he isn’t all that pleased. Alejo is trying to take down people in his department after all.
So Barbara makes her way to the Alejo camp. She’s going to figure out why someone would want to harm Alejo and protect her in the process.
It’s not a bad story overall. It’s a little more wordy than I would hope but it’s not bad. The art is rather dull. I just don’t think I’m a Pelletier fan. His art doesn’t do it for me. With an artist I liked more, it may have been better.
