Dan Jurgens has been writing one heck of a Joker tale. The twist is that he’s loose in the Batman Beyond universe!
This story has been a lot of fun. This is the issue where everything goes to hell in a hand basket. This is all thanks to Mr. Jurgens and his excellent script combined with some really dynamic art.
The issue starts with the future Joker all souped up with a lot of future technology. You see, the Joker has made a futuristic robot and he is shooting at Batman and Robin. A big fight ensues!
Brett Booth goes crazy on the visuals and the whole thing is very enjoyable.
From there, the whole issue just grows increasingly wacky!
This fight eventually leads the Joker to capturing the future Robin. This is especially horrifying because we all know what the Joker loves to do with Robins!
Meanwhile, Terry fights the Joker robot with a lot of rage! Can he defeat it? I will say that it’s one heck of a fight scene that pushes Terry to his limits!
It looks like he’s going to lose, however. Terry is on the ropes. The Joker robot is ready to strike. Then, at the last moment, there is a save! The person who saves Terry is a surprise but makes total sense. It’s a beautiful moment that I just loved and sets up some future possible storylines. Jurgens really thought the whole thing through well it seems.
The ending though is terrifying. The Joker has beaten the hell out of Robin. He’s holding a crowbar. And he’s ready to bring things full circle. He’s blackmailing everyone as well. You see, he will let Robin go if he is told everything “there is to know about a guy named Bruce.”
It’s one exciting cliffhanger to end an issue on too! I can’t wait to get the next issue in my hands! The story moves so fast I barely could catch a breath. And the art is just perfect for this breakneck paced story. This is some great stuff and this title only gets better from month to month!
