Man, Christopher Priest has been really amping up this title the last few months. I love the work that he is doing. This issue is the precursor to the upcoming crossover between Deathstroke and the Teen Titans. It looks to be exciting for sure and this issue is a great lead up to the main event!
The issue starts out with Slade Wilson being a wanted man! There are posters and signs and displays all around Gotham City. That means it’s a free for all for people trying to kill Slade.
And that’s exactly what we see when we start off the issue: Slade fighting for his very life.
We see Slade in his Deathstroke outfit on top of a double decker tourist bus. He’s fighting against the Electrocutioner.
It’s a beautifully illustrated scene and it moves fast. They seem to have a misunderstanding going on as to who is hunting who. This misunderstanding wrecks havoc through Gotham. But who set the both of them up? And what if this person has bigger plans than just this?
We see Commissioner Gordon looking at the aftermath of the bus ride. We get to see that Gordon has Wintergreen captured. He eventually has to interrogate Wintergreen in a tense scene at police headquarters. Priest shows off his chops as a writer here and creates a great and memorable scene.
Meanwhile, Slade is out there fighting for his life. There are a lot of great juxtapositions throughout the story.
Eventually Gordon lets Wintergreen go. This leads into a good ending which is a perfect lead in to the next storyline.
Priest is at the top of his game. I mean he’s really at the prime of his run here at this point in this title. Every issue is fresh and works even better then the last. The art is pretty great too. I’m really excited with what Priest and each artist have been coming up with on this book, month in and month out. It’s a damn fine comic.
