‘Nightwing #58’ (review)

Written by Scott Lobdell
and Zack Kaplan
Illustrated by Travis Moore
Published by DC Comics

All right! Nightwing is an awesome title again! This issue just is fantastic from start to finish and I was at the edge of my seat throughout. This even feels like a new beginning here which is great! I just hope it lasts!

This issue starts off with some of the Nightwing Squad getting ready for battle. They know that there is a threat out there that they must confront.

They are going on the offensive and they will not be stopped! Good thing too, because the Joker’s Daughter is out there, and she’s really starting to make a move!

So then we cut to where we left off last issue. We are at the Oasis Club and there is a man with dynamite strapped to him. The man is Councilman Pollard and everyone in the club goes nuts.

The Joker’s Daughter watches the ensuing panic from a monitor room. She revels in her plan. Can anyone stop her?

The writers make the Joker’s Daughter an actual threat. She’s vicious and soulless in a very scary way. The Nightwings are having a hard time tracking her down. She always seems just one or two steps ahead of them. Things look absolutely hopeless.

That is, until “Ric” Grayson decides to join the fray. And that’s when things really get out of hand.

Ric and the Joker’s Daughter have an all out, knock down battle. It’s brutal and doesn’t let up. It’s also glorious. Neither person will give up and it’s actually an exciting fight. I loved this battle and the results of it. It’s handled very well by the creative team.

The issue does have a bit of a jolting ending but I liked it enough. It feels like it was rushed but hey, everything else works. And the art by Travis Moore makes everything better. He gives us some great visuals here. All in all it’s a decent book and I hope they keep up the energy and creativity on this title.

RATING: B+
