This is awesome! Jason Todd has decided to go back to Gotham City and all is right in this world.
After months on the road, Scott Lobdell has decided to bring the Red Hood back to the place he was running from and it just opens up a whole ton of story possibilities!
Lobdell opens the issue with a recap of how gloomy and gritty Gotham City is. But it’s absolutely perfect for setting up the story here. It’s a nice prelude right up until the greatest moment of the entire series. What moment is that?
Well, the narrative takes us right into one of the Penguin’s casinos. We get to see the sights and the people.
And then, Jason Todd makes his presence known. He just strolls right in to the casino and we can see that he has a plan that he is setting in motion.
What is that plan?
Is he back to finish the job he started earlier on the Penguin? You know, the decision that led him to be on the run and to be in a mess? The answers come quicker than you would think!
That’s because Lobdell knows how to pace his writing. He hooks you in perfectly and doesn’t let go. Then he slowly reels you in. By the end of the issue, the Penguin has disappeared! Does Jason have him? Who knows, but Batman certainly seems to think so.
That is right!
Batman shows up to accuse Jason of kidnapping the Penguin! But Jason denies it! And then Jason calmly asks Bruce if he’d like a drink! Basically Batman doesn’t believe that Jason is innocent in the Penguin’s kidnapping. By the issue’s end, we are left with a whole new series of questions after a big reveal!
This is some great stuff. The script takes all sorts of turns in these twenty two pages and it’s awesome. I have no idea where we might be going next! The art is fantastic as well. Segovia is a perfect fit for this book. I’m excited at where this is going. This is some great stuff indeed.
