This book is completely awesome! I love the stories that Tomasi has written on this series. This chapter just continues the good time!
With this issue, he take some us somewhere that I never expected to see in this particular comic book but it was a joy to see nonetheless!
This comic opens on a world where Jonah Hex is still alive and kicking. We get to see him being held up by a bunch of aliens who just shot his hand off. He thinks he may be a goner this time. That is, until the Super Sons show up and inadvertently save his hide! This is a strong start to the comic and I was drawn in immediately!
It isn’t long before Jonah Hex and the boys are racing on horses making their escape!
Over a campfire later, Superboy even says “That was a nutty escape!” The boys and Hex have a hearty meal and then it’s time to get off this planet that the Super Sons crashed on. They make a plan and then it’s time to enact on it!
We also find out at this point how Jonah Hex came to be on this planet. Tomasi writes a cool backstory here and it totally works. Superboy then reiterates that there is some bad stuff about to happen in the universe and that it’s up to them to stop it.
We get to see just what he is talking about too. Rex Luthor is ramping up the Gang to finish up his mad plan!
Things are starting to come together quickly and the forward momentum is crazy. There’s also a good dose of humor here as well that really kept me going.
By the end of the book, the team makes it to the train that is going to lead them off the planet. Will they make it off? Can they save the universe? Is Jonah Hex coming with them? Some of these questions are answered right in this comic!
Scott Godlewski is a good choice to draw this particular issue. He’s got a great take on the boys as well as Jonah Hex. This is another nice chapter of this limited series. I’m enjoying reading this as it starts heading into the last few issues.
