‘Supergirl #29’ (review)

Written by Marc Andreyko
Illustrated by Eduardo Pansica
Published by DC Comics

Supergirl is in space! The first part of this storyline was actually a lot of fun.

Then, after the 25th issue, it’s honestly been a bit of a trudge to get through. This issue continues that trudge and feels like it isn’t as much fun as it should be.

The opening scene has a bunch of flashes in Supergirl’s head.

Eventually, she opens her eyes and sees a colorful world in front of her eyes. Krypto and Z’Ndr are having a great time in it too. Things seem to be happy and everyone seems like that are enjoying themselves.

So, we just know that this is going to go end badly.

And then it gets boring for a few pages. We know that Supergirl is on a quest and that it involves taking some elements from Rogol Zaal’s life and investigates them.

That thread keeps you going as a reader. It makes the dull parts a little less dull.

Not much happens in the way of excitement for the first half of the book except a lot of talking heads. The second half of the book has a big fight but I wasn’t as invested in it as I might have hoped. There was a lot of fighting and flash but I hardly cared.

By the end of the book, we see a new threat and I didn’t really care who it was. I was checked out. Hopefully we get to the point of this story again soon.

The art is the best part of the issue. Eduardo Pansica is a fabulous artist and he is the saving grace of the issue. This can be a better book. I loved the first few issues of this storyline. It can be done.

RATING: C
