This book continues the story by Brian Michael Bendis called “The Unity Saga.” It feels like it has been going on forever!
And maybe it has!
It wouldn’t be so bad if it felt like stuff was happening. But they’re not and no matter how many pages I read of this book it’s strange that very little actually does occur.
The issue starts off with Superboy recounting how he tried to get home and how he was attacked by an alternate version of his mother.
He tried to find a doorway back to his parents and a big fight ensued! He is telling Lois and Clark and they listen, horrified for their boy.
They tell Jon that none of what happened to him is okay.
We then flashback to Superboy trying to escape his situation. Then, from nowhere, Granpa Jor-El shows up and rescues him. Apparently, Jor-El has been looking for him for years and he finally finds him and saves Jon. Jon boards Jor-El’s ship and off they go!
Then, suddenly, Jor-El’s ship is breached by an in progress fight between Rogol Zaar and Zod. This is supposed to link to earlier issues of this series(I think) and at this point I just threw up my hands and just about gave up. It’s so convoluted that I’m not sure I have the brain capacity to figure out what is going on.
Or is there anything going on? I couldn’t tell you.
At least the artwork is nice. Reis and Peterson really do bring their A-game. But for what? The ending of the book looks to promise more insanity next issue. At this point, I am wishing for simple stories after this. This has gotten out of hand. Not even a map of who’s who and what is going on would help at this point. And that’s a sad thing.
