‘The Batman Who Laughs #4’ (review)

Written by Scott Snyder
Illustrated by Jock
Published by DC Comics

This has been a great miniseries thus far!  Scott Snyder and Jock do a great job of keeping the suspense going!

This issue is also an important chapter of the story. As soon as I got it, I excitedly dug into it and I was not disappointed!

We see Robin in the beginning of this book doing his thing. It looks like he’s going to be involved in the forthcoming happenings.

From there we see one of the most brutal and scary things I have ever witnessed in a comic.

Batman is talking with Alfred in the Batcave. Bruce has done something completely out of character for him. Alfred demands that he take his cowl off.

When he does, we see that he is infected with madness.  Alfred punches him and an all out brawl ensures. Alfred then seemingly get Bruce under control and then it becomes time to take down the Batman Who Laughs once and for all.

We then cut to the Batman Who Laughs holding Commissioner Gordon hostage. He’s asks Gordon hard questions. Here, we see that he is basically just being a terrible person to cross paths with. The Grim Knight is there as well to make sure Gordon doesn’t try any funny business.

We then see young James Gordon (the Commissioner’s son and a serial killer) stalking the streets of Gotham. The real Bruce meanwhile continues his descent into madness when he encounters the Joker. They two of them have one hell of a fight that is both physical and psychological. The scene doesn’t end how you might think and it’s brutal.

There are a few more brutal scenes that happen. It all leads to cliffhanger ending which when I ready it? I completely mad it ended like that! Now I’m forced another month to wait. I’m patient though and I don’t mind waiting as long as it’s as good as it’s been.

The art is truly something special. Jock does such a nice job. He can do it all and is one hell of an Illustrator.

The horror aspect in the book is great and the whole thing just doesn’t let up. Snyder and Jock have a hit on their hands and it’s has some incredibly momentum. A great job by the creative team overall yet again.

RATING: A
