This title has been pretty inventive thus far! Writer Sam Humphries has been doing a great job keeping things moving and keeping things exciting. It’s also filled with nice story moments and humor. You really can’t ask for more than that!
We get a flashback to a previous time in Central City to start off the issue. It’s a nice lead in to the issue. Then, we see both Summer and Miguel trying to get The Flash to talk to them.
They start off by trying to steal soda from a convenience store. The scene is very funny and even a little bit heartfelt.
This leads to Summer talking about her past to Miguel. We learn more about her family life and upbringing and it’s well handled by Humphries.
We learn that her mother was a stage mom and tried to put her into the beauty pageant world. We learn about how she fought back and suffered. It’s all done in a very poignant way.
It also gives us some nice character development along the way and shows us how Summer and Miguel relate. Humphries handles it all in a solid way and it makes the book even stronger before even getting to the action.
And then when the action happens, everything means that much more. The duo spend the rest of the issue trying to track down the Dial H For Hero phone.
They encounter some wacky creations along the way from the phone. They have to reach it soon, too. Otherwise, the villainous Dr. Thunderbolt might get to it first. And that would lead to disaster.
The story moves at a great pace. And the art by Joe Quinones is perfect. You couldn’t ask for a better creative team. This is some great stuff for sure and I’m enjoying it very much.
