Stream On: What’s New To Netflix for June 2019

With HBO juggernaut Game of Thrones now in the past and the primetime TV on hiatus until next fall, viewers turn to Netflix for their summer entertainment.

Returning for a fifth season on June 5, Netflix’s own megahit Black Mirror announced its arrival with a trailer for each episode. For the fifth season, the dark sci-fier ups the ante with stars Miley Cyrus, Topher Grace, and Anthony Mackie, to name a few.

Also heating up the streaming service this summer is the reality series The Chef Show, based on the 2014 film starring and directed by Jon Favreau. The helmer returns to the kitchen with a handful of famous friends and celebrity chefs to explore yummy eats and gourmet treats. The series debuts on June 7.

Also on June 7, the original miniseries Tales of the City makes its debut. Starring Laura Linney, Olympia Dukakis, and Ellen Page, the classic tale from author Armistead Maupin takes a look at a woman’s midlife crisis as she reunited with the family she abandoned.

For music lovers, Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese examines the legendary helmer’s life on the road with the iconic folk singer during the Rolling Thunder Revue tour. The doc debuts on June 12.

On June 19, Anthony Anderson stars in the hip hop based drama Beats, which follows a former music manager hoping to regain entrance into the industry with the help of a agoraphobic music prodigy.

And in a final goodbye to any Marvel series before Disney+ makes its debut in November, Marvel’s Jessica Jones’s third season will hit the streaming service in June to wrap up any loose ends…hopefully.

Additional Netflix series set for return include heavy metal anime Aggretsuko (June 14), French thriller The Missing (June 17), the second season of true crime docu series The Confession Tapes (June 21) and season two of German thriller Dark (June 21).

In addition to original series and movies, new movies on Netflix also include a handful of hit kiddie pics including Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet (June 11), Paramount Pictures’  Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (June 1), Universal’s Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch (June 5), and Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (June 26)
