All good things must come to an end.
That is certainly the case with this title. It has been a fun run but it’s the end of it sadly. But I have to say, this book goes out on a high note. I expected great things, and this creative team fulfilled the promise of the story.
Rex Luthor has seemingly won! He has trapped the Super Sons in the Hypercube. Rex has a plan to use the Hypercube for his dastardly deeds. And with Robin and Superboy out of the way, he can go right ahead and proceed!
Things are looking quite grim for the universe!
Meanwhile, in the Hypercube itself, Superboy and Robin are plotting an escape.
While they are doing so, they come across the real secret of the Hypercube. It’s a pretty intriguing secret too and the backstory of the Cube is wonderfully written. Tomasi does a great job of giving the story we are reading some actual heft.
Needless to say, the Super Sons escape their captivity!
They then have to confront Rex Luthor! And the fight that follows is absolutely glorious. Tomasi lets Barberi cut loose and it’s an awesome final fight scene! It’s actually the perfect conclusion to this exciting series in the action department.
After it’s all over, the Super Sons head back to their lives on earth. There is even a reference that they both have to get ready for the first day of school. There is also a cute little epilogue that brought a huge smile to my face.
This has been a great series, no doubt. The last page does have a line that gives me hope for that future. Tomasi ends the book with a line that says “never the end.” I hope it’s not. This book has earned its place to keep on coming out.
Let’s all hope for more comics with these two teaming up in the future.
